As the wave of political tide begins to rise in the country, several opposition lawmakers in the 52nd National Legislature have crossed carpeted to the ruling Unity Party (UP).   Prominent among the lawmakers who have joined the UP include, Sen. Lahai Lassanah formerly of the National Democratic Party of Liberia (NDPL) who recently joined the Liberty Party of Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine. Others who have also joined the ruling party are Rep. Elijah Sieh of Alliance for Peace and Democracy (APD); Samuel Bondo of the Liberty Party, Rev. Dr. Kertehkumue Murray of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), and Rep. Titus Barclay of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).

Bomi County Representative, Haja Fata-Siyon of the former ruling NDPL, Rep. Gbonojeveh Quah Independent and  Rep. Edwin P. Gaye have also crossed carpeted to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf's UP.     At the same time, the Legislative Caucus of the Unity Party (UP) at the National Legislature has unanimously endorsed the President Johnson-Sirleaf's quest to run for a second term in the 2011 General and Presidential Elections. In a well-prepared press statement read by Rep. Kertehkumue Murray, former Executive of the CDC on behalf of the UP Caucus, the group noted, “We, members of the UP Legislative Caucus have unanimously resolved to support Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in her strides to promote unity and peace, stability and freedom, and security and mutual understanding among the people of Liberia.” The UP lawmakers said they are heartened to note that after continuous calls from citizens from across the length and breadth of the country for Madam Sirleaf to succeed herself for the many achievements she has made in this brief period of time, the President finally accepted to their wishes.

The group's spokesman stated that they have endorsed Madam Sirleaf's second bid because of her vision to prioritize education while some from the other camps would like to keep the people ignorant, barefooted and illiterate so that they could be eternally manipulated and exploited. “President Sirleaf has opted to have 1.4 million pupils and students afforded free and compulsory education,” the former CDC official turned UP mouthpiece boasted.  The statement added that the President's good governance policy has led to the restoration of Liberia's image and placed in the comity of nations where Liberia is regularly consulted on regional, African and world issues. The statement further indicated that Liberia's standing which was labeled failed or melt-down stage has finally been restored under the able leadership of the President.

Among other things, members of the UP Legislature Caucus pointed out that as a result of Ellen's impeccable and astute navigation of Liberian economy during the economic down-turn in the economic forecast last year, the country has now become a preferred destination for investors, thus witnessing the ArcelorMittal Steel and China Union agreements, review of the Sam Darby and Indonesian Group Portfolios;  the Buchanan Renewable Energy compact and the many new banking and other business enterprises.
